Auto Paint Care in Stockbridge, MI
Here is the part most people find surprising: the paint code on your door jamb will not, on its own, match your car.
Why the code is only a starting point
Two vehicles built the same week in different plants can leave the line with measurably different mixes of the same color. Then yours spends years in Michigan sun, and the pigment shifts. A panel sprayed to the factory formula and bolted onto a six-year-old car reads as a bright rectangle against everything around it, which is exactly the effect people mean when they say a repair "looks repaired."
We spray test cards, hold them against the actual vehicle in daylight, and tint the mix until the difference disappears. Metallics and pearls take longer because the flake orientation changes what your eye sees at an angle, so we check them from more than one position.
Blending, not patching
Even a perfect match needs somewhere to hide the transition. Color gets laid into the adjacent panel and the clear carried across the whole surface to a natural break, so there is no visible edge anywhere. Trying to confine a repair to the damaged square is the single most common shortcut in this trade and the easiest one to spot in a parking lot.
PPG certified, and it matters
We are a PPG certified auto body shop, which means the products, the mixing system, and the application procedures are the manufacturer's and our people are trained on them. Paint chemistry is fussy about temperature, humidity, flash times, and film thickness. Follow the datasheet and a finish lasts. Improvise and it fails in year three, usually as clear coat lifting along a panel edge.
