When the paint is intact

If the finish is unbroken and there is access from behind the panel, the metal can be worked back with rods and reflected light until it reads flat again. No filler, no primer, no color, and your original factory finish stays original, which is worth real money at trade-in. It is also the fastest and least expensive route, so it is the first thing we check for on any dent that comes through the door.

When it is not

Cracked paint, a crease sitting on a body line, a panel with no access behind it, or aluminum that has already work-hardened all rule that approach out. Those get conventional repair: the metal shaped back, a thin skim where it is genuinely needed, then primer and refinish blended into the adjacent panels. Done properly the result is invisible. Done as a filler-and-spray job it shrinks over the following summer and the outline of the repair reappears.
