Curb rash

The scraped, dull arc along the outer lip of a wheel is cosmetic, and it is fixable. The damaged area gets cut back, filled where the metal is gouged, reshaped to the original profile, and refinished to match: painted, machined face, or a dark finish, depending on what left the factory. Done correctly you cannot tell which wheel it was.

Alloy and steel both come through here. Steel wheels are simpler and often just want straightening and a proper refinish. Alloys need more care, because the finish is frequently a two-stage system rather than plain paint.

Bends and the safety line

A pothole or a hard hit against a curb can bend a rim, which shows up as a vibration or a wheel that will not hold air against the bead. Many bends can be trued. Some cannot, and we will say so. A wheel with a crack, a bend across a spoke, or damage to the mounting face is not something to restore and drive on, whatever a cheaper quote elsewhere claims.
